Page \ Park: Architects and Corporate Sponsors

by Brian Inkster 14. November 2009 19:41

One of our first corporate sponsors was Page \ Park. I have just realised that whilst they have been listed as a corporate sponsor on inkstersgive.com for some time now we have not done a blog post about them. So I will now remedy that.

Nicola is an Associate Director at Page \ Park and they have been very supportive of her taking up the Global Village Challenge to Argentina. It is of course fitting for a firm of Architects to be associated with a house building project. Indeed Page \ Park are well known for their involvement in social housing such as Dalilea Drive, Easterhouse in Glasgow (which Nicola worked on), 1967 -1969 Dumbarton Road in Glasgow, Graham Square in Glasgow, Grangemouth Housing in Grangemouth, Hayfield Street/Crown Street in Glasgow, Lilybank Wynd in Johnstone, Moore Street in Glasgow, Newmilns Housing in Ayrshire and Waddell Street/Ballater Street in Glasgow.

As well as a very generous donation to Habitat for Humanity from the firm itself, Nicola's colleagues at Page \ Park have also been very generous in giving donations both online and offline.

So when we start the build project in Buenos Aires on Monday we will proudly be displaying the Page \ Park logo (alongside our other corporate sponsors) on our T-Shirts and hard hats.

Brian's former employers, Jeffrey Aitken, become a Corporate Sponsor

by Brian Inkster 12. November 2009 19:38

I was delighted when Jeffrey Aitken became our eleventh Corporate Sponsor and the last one before we set off for Argentina.

I started my legal traineeship with Jeffrey Aitken in 1991 and went on to work for them for 8 years first as an Assitant Solicitor and then as an Associate. My training under the partners at Jeffrey Aitken was superb and set me in good stead to start up practice on my own account in 1999. Indeed Jeffrey Aitken were very supportive of my wish to branch out on my own with us sharing office space during my first year in business before Inksters move to Baltic Chambers. Ten years later we maintain a very good working relationship.

My ground breaking case on the servitude right to park, Moncrieff v Jamieson, started out life at Lerwick Sheriff Court when I was at Jeffrey Aitken and only recently came to an end in the House of Lords. I dealt with many other interesting cases whilst at Jeffrey Aitken including a memorable interdict to prevent alcohol being consumed in a beer garden in Glasgow's West End. It involved a site visit before court proceedings were commenced!

So a big thank you to Innes McMaster, Mike Whiteford, Gordon Frew and Alasdair Gillies for the training they gave me and for becoming our latest corporate sponsors.

Buy the T-Shirt

by Brian Inkster 8. November 2009 22:23

Due to unprecedented demand on Twitter last night we are making our Habitat for Humanity Argentina 2009 T-Shirts available for sale. These have all our Corporate Sponsors logos printed in full colour on both the front and back.

The T-Shirts are now available to purchase at £20 each (inclusive of postage to any destination worldwide). This should cover the costs involved and if there is a 'profit' generated by the sales then that will be made over to Habitat for Humanity.

If you wish to purchase a T-Shirt use the Inksters Online Payment system. When asked for an Invoice Number simply insert "T-Shirt". If you wish to purchase more than one then simply insert the 'Amount being paid' as a multiple of £20. e.g. if you are ordering 2 insert £40 and if you are ordering 3 insert £60.

On receipt of your payment we will e-mail you confirmation and request a note of the T-Shirt size(s) required by you and a note of the delivery address to which we are to post the T-Shirt(s).

So order now using Inksters Online Payment system.

UPDATE: 2 May 2010

Orders for the T-Shirts are now closed. Thanks to all those who have ordered them. We will be printing and shipping the T-Shirts this month.

Barr Brady, Chartered Surveyors, join our Corporate Sponsors

by Brian Inkster 6. November 2009 21:59

My connection with Barr Brady goes back to 1991 when I started my legal traineeship with Jeffrey Aitken, Solicitors, in Glasgow. Barr Brady was established just one year before that (in 1990). Over the past 18 years I have regularly instructed Barr Brady to carry out surveys on behalf of clients purchasing properties in the areas covered by their Glasgow, Edinburgh, Paisley, Helensburgh, Falkirk, Haddington, Hamilton, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen offices. I have established a very good working relationship with the surveyors at Barr Brady and was delighted when they became a Corporate Sponsor of our Global Village Challenge to Argentina. Thankfully, however, Barr Brady will not be surveying our building work in Buenos Aires!

Our Chicago Corporate Sponsor: Valentilaw

by Brian Inkster 4. November 2009 22:59

Our latest Corporate Sponsor is Valentilaw. Chicago attorney, Thomas P. Valenti, has been a litigator throughout his legal career on behalf of plaintiffs involved with personal injury claims or on behalf of commercial and insurance defendants. He has been involved in many jury trials as well as a number of bench trials, arbitration hearings, and mediations.

His law practice areas have included a broad range of subjects, including personal injury, insurance, construction and contract matters; however, Thomas  P. Valenti has had the most ongoing involvement with the areas of personal injury and tort claims, business disputes and insurance coverage issues.

Thomas P. Valenti offers arbitration and mediation services.

I know Tom through Twitter where he tweets as @valentilaw and @chicagomediator. He, like our other tweeting Corporate Sponsors, The Trial Warrior and Silverman Sherliker, has become a good friend, a reliable source of information and a reciprocal re-tweeter. I am very pleased that Tom was able to join our Corporate Sponsors.

Our London Law Firm Sponsor

by Brian Inkster 28. October 2009 20:28

Our latest corporate sponsor is Silverman Sherliker LLP, a full-service London law firm, recently described on Twitter as the “coolest lawyers in London”.

I first encountered our sponsor's founding partner, Chris Sherliker (@London_Law_Firm) on Twitter. Chris is a well known twitterer: Founder of #UKFF and #VTPP and about to tilt the Earth for an Early Equinox to accommodate a Twitter Winter Solstice Party (#TEEP). He is also renowned for his shadowgraph and fly fishing skills. Our Twitter paths have often crossed. Chris was the first English solicitor to be Twitterviewed by Lance Godard (@lancegodard) at #22twts (@22twts) with my Twitterview (the first Scottish one) taking place after his one. We are both (separately) reviewing Social Media for Lawyers: Twitter Edition by Adrian Dayton (@adriandayton). Pamela Glasner (@PamelaGlasner) has tweeted on #FollowFriday: "the two best UK law firms in existence: @BrianInkster and @London_Law_Firm". Our wives are currently reading Pamela's book Finding Emmaus. So I was delighted when Chris and his firm decided to join our corporate sponsors and support our Global Village Challenge in Argentina 2009. I was also delighted to meet Chris in person in London last Friday. As I said on Twitter that day: "#UKFF @London_Law_Firm who is as charming in person as he is on Twitter (we met for the first time today)".

Help cover our hard hats with logos

by Brian Inkster 18. October 2009 20:30

Nicola and I are seeking minimum donations of £200 from Corporate Sponsors. Benefits include your company logo on our hard hats and/or T-shirts and your logo and company profile on inkstersgive.com with a link to your company website. You will also get a mention on our blog in our tweets and whenever appropriate publicity opportunities present themselves.

To become a Corporate Sponsor:-

1.   Donate at least £200 now at JustGiving.com or by post

2.   E-mail your company logo to me

We would like, if at all possible, to have our Corporate Sponsors finalised by the end of October to give us time to have T-shirts and stickers printed before we leave for Argentina.

The cost of the trip to Argentina has already been met by Inksters Solicitors. Therefore, every penny raised by us will go straight to Habitat for Humanity to directly assist the build project.

So don't delay sponsor us today!
