Very tired but equally elated

Day 4 of the Global Village Challenge saw our team split in two for two very different tasks.

In the morning I was at the second Concordia Foundation centre (not the one mentioned in the first post on 22 de Enero neighbourhood). This has recently had an extension added onto it which will act as a community hall for everyone in the neighbourhood. The grand opening is this Saturday and there was a lot to be done to get it ready in time. I spent most of the morning with a paint brush and roller priming the walls. Another one of our team, Helen, and I did the high level parts on a trestle. We moved onto a bench for an area that was not so high which turned into a see saw when Helen stepped off with me still painting at one end! Thankfully, I was not injured.

We also did some exterior work at the Concordia Foundation centre moving a pile of rubble to clear the yard in front of the centre.

At lunch time we went to the other work site to join the others (including Nicola who had spent the morning at that site). This was a family home presided over by Maria. Here the work involved binding together reinforcement bars for eventual use as a concrete column and, in addition, the creation of an overflow tank for the existing septic tank. The soil that was dug out for the overflow tank was then used to improve the road outside the house.

We all ate lunch together and then swapped sites with Nicola and others going off to paint the walls I had primed and me and others continuing to dig out the 1m² septic tank overflow hole that Nicola had been working on in the morning. I also helped out with a smaller hole that would be the foundation for a concrete column the purpose of which no one seemed very sure of.

Maria, like Daniel yesterday, was very grateful that we had come from the UK to help her with these home improvements.

Late in the afternoon Helen and I returned to the Concordia Foundation centre to help the team that was there move some concrete fence posts to the other Concordia Foundation centre with the aid of a rather old lorry.

It had been a very active day and I felt very tired but equally elated at the end of it.
